PARTNERS

  • Region
    Austria

No matter if the valley is deep and the mountain high: Austria and satellite navigation – jointly promoting space-based innovation.

Austria is a small, landlocked country of roughly 8.47 million people in Central Europe. Austria has a well-developed social market economy and a high standard of living. Over the last ten years, Austria’s investments in research, technology, and innovation – the driving forces behind sustainable increases in the performance and competitive potential of any society – have led to above-average growth. This positive trend can in turn be attributed to an increase in R&D spending. For Austria, space technologies ranging from telecommunications, transport, and security to environmental and climate research are a key point of interest. The benefits the country enjoys as a result are not only scientific, but also economic in nature: Austrian companies are successful international players supplying top technologies for infrastructure and application development solutions.

  • Regional Organiser
    Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG)

The Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) is the national funding institution for applied research and development in Austria and offers a comprehensive range of services for enterprises, research institutions and researchers.

FFG’s Aeronautics and Space Agency connects these entities with the international aerospace world. It implements Austria’s aerospace policy, and represents the country at international aerospace committees, including ESA. The Austrian Space Applications Programme (ASAP), meanwhile, funds research on space science, technology, and applications. Finally, as the central interface between Austrian interests and European programmes, FFG’s Galileo contact point supports Austria’s competencies in the field of satellite navigation and interacts with the GNSS community.
